LOS ANGELES, April 5th, 2023 – Dance Marathon 2023, the largest collegiate philanthropic tradition on the West Coast, is happening this April! Hosted by the Pediatric AIDS Coalition (PAC) at UCLA, the 22nd Dance Marathon will take place on April 8th and 9th at Pauley Pavilion.
Dance Marathon is a 19-hour dance-a-thon where students, faculty, community members, and others take a literal stand against Pediatric HIV, AIDS, and the stigma surrounding it. The event is not just about dancing, but also includes color war games, arts and crafts, informative speakers, and meals. PAC’s mission is to raise funds and awareness to help fight pediatric HIV and AIDS through research, treatment, and community outreach.
The cost to register as a dancer is $20, which covers all meals and a stylish T-shirt. However, all dancers are required to fundraise $190 by the end of the event on April 8th/9th. These funds support three amazing beneficiaries: the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the UCLA AIDS Institute, and the Laurel Foundation. 1% of the money goes back to PAC’s Direct Service Fund.
According to the World Health Organization, 38 million people in the world today are living with HIV, with 1.7 million of those being children. By focusing on pediatric HIV and AIDS, PAC aims to make a difference in a preventable issue. With proper treatment, babies born to HIV-positive mothers can be born HIV-negative, which costs only $19.
“Dance Marathon is not just a party, it’s a movement,” says a representative from PAC. “We are thrilled to have the support of the UCLA community and beyond to help us fight pediatric HIV and AIDS. By participating in Dance Marathon, you are directly impacting the lives of people across the globe, helping usher in an AIDS-free generation.”
Registration for Dance Marathon is still open and can be done as an individual or as part of a team. To sign up, visit https://join.pedaids.org/ucla/Account/Register.
