On Friday, June 2, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Lee Satterfield will deliver remarks on Ukraine and cultural heritage at the Meridian International Center’s annual global convening cultureFIX, where she will outline key efforts undertaken by the U.S. Department of State and private sector partners.
In addition to her remarks, Satterfield will accept the Meridian Cultural Diplomacy Award on behalf of the Department’s Cultural Heritage Center (CHC), which is a part of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and leads the U.S. Government’s global efforts to preserve and protect cultural heritage worldwide. The CHC will be honored for its work to support the protection and preservation of cultural heritage across Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s brutal war.
Since 2002, the CHC and our Embassy in Ukraine have worked with Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy to support Ukraine’s cultural heritage efforts through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) program, which awards federal grants to support projects worldwide to preserve and protect cultural heritage and strengthen the relationship between the United States and other countries.
