Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa to congratulate him on assuming his new role. Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Maris reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Thailand treaty alliance and partnership, as well as the U.S. commitment to the broader Indo-Pacific region. The Secretary and Foreign Minister also discussed ways in which the United States and Thailand can continue to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and around the world.
Secretary Blinken further thanked the Foreign Minister for Thailand’s support of the June 6 joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. They agreed to continue to work together towards a comprehensive ceasefire deal that would allow the release of the hostages, including Thai nationals, and significantly increase the levels of humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza. The Secretary noted that he looks forward to working with the new Foreign Minister on both opportunities and challenges that impact our two nations.
