Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield will travel to Paris, France from July 22 to August 2, where she will serve as the Head of Delegation at UNESCO’s Sports Ministerial ‘Change the Game’ Conference, as well as participate in public diplomacy engagements to elevate sports as a diplomatic platform to bring people together and promote peace. In her role as Assistant Secretary, Satterfield leads the United States’ international sport policy and engagement efforts as the State Department’s Coordinator for International Athletics.
From Jul 23-24, 2024, the Assistant Secretary will lead the U.S. delegation to UNESCO’s Sports Ministerial ‘Change the Game’ Conference, where she will deliver remarks and meet with her sports minister counterparts from around the globe around key issues, including the opportunity and impacts of hosting international sporting events, gender equity, and inclusion.
In addition, the Assistant Secretary will participate in numerous public diplomacy engagements during her trip, with a variety of engagements with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), as well as sports diplomacy engagements with the U.S. Embassy in Paris. She will cap her visit to Paris on August 1 with an on-the-record conversation as part of Axios and Deep Blue’s TN50: ‘The Power of Sports Diplomacy,’ which will be held at USA House.
