WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo held a working lunch with Ukrainian Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Spring meetings. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo reaffirmed the Administration’s unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight to preserve its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The Deputy Secretary updated Minister Marchenko on the Administration’s efforts to secure Congressional passage of bipartisan legislation to deliver vital military and economic assistance to Ukraine. The Deputy Secretary and Minister also discussed other methods of supporting Ukraine, including sanctions against Russia and unlocking the value of immobilized Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine’s continued resistance and long-term reconstruction. They further discussed ways to constrain Russia’s access to the goods it needs to build weapons, including the role China plays in supplying Russia’s military industrial complex. The Deputy Secretary commended Ukraine’s performance in its IMF program and expressed appreciation for the Ukrainian government’s ongoing collaboration with Treasury’s Office of Technical Assistance.
