On August 25th, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard R. Verma will travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to attend the 77th Little League Baseball World Series (LLBWS) championship game, which will feature the winning team from the U.S. bracket versus the winning team of the international bracket.
While in Williamsport, he will also visit the World of Little League Museum’s new exhibit on “Girls with Game” that celebrates the pioneers who have helped pave the way for the participation of girls in the LLBWS over the past 50 years, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of Little League Softball.
The Deputy Secretary’s visit will promote the importance of youth engagement in sports and underscore its role in uniting cultures and driving positive social impact, especially in areas of inclusion, accessibility, and equality. His visit will reinforce the positive effects of expanding opportunities for girls and women to play sports and highlight the partnership and support of the State Department in facilitating travel for LLBWS participants from around the world. The visit will also help kick off a “mega decade” of major sporting events hosted by the United States including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, LA2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and culminating with the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
