Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Secretary Blinken congratulated Foreign Minister Abdelatty on his appointment and highlighted the enduring Egyptian-U.S. strategic partnership while praising Egypt for its essential leadership in addressing regional and global challenges. The Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of the hostages, and a significant increase in humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza. They also discussed work to establish governance, security, and reconstruction in Gaza in the post-conflict period in a way that builds lasting peace and security.
Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Abdelatty also discussed our shared objectives for promoting regional stability, improving human rights, ending Houthi attacks on international shipping, and an end to the conflict in Sudan.
