Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong today in advance of the Australia – U.S. Ministerial Consultations. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister discussed a range of global issues and ways to continue deepening the U.S.-Australia Alliance. Secretary Blinken thanked Foreign Minister Wong for Australia’s steadfast partnership in addressing the most challenging issues around the world.
The Secretary and the Foreign Minister exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, including with partners in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, to support a more stable, prosperous, and connected region. They also discussed next steps to advance implementation of the Climate, Critical Minerals and Clean Energy Compact and applauded the work completed to-date through the Minerals Security Partnership and the U.S.-Australia Critical Minerals Task Force to deepen bilateral economic ties, bolster critical mineral supply chains, and support the global clean energy transition.
