Secretary Blinken’s Participation in the U.S.-KSA-UAE Trilateral Meeting on Peace in Yemen and Other Regional Priorities

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss shared regional priorities, including their commitment to a durable resolution to the conflict in Yemen in close coordination with Yemeni parties. The Secretary and the Foreign Ministers discussed steps required to end the Yemen conflict as soon as possible and resolve the humanitarian and economic crises facing Yemen.  The Secretary welcomed Saudi Arabia’s hosting of talks in Riyadh, which concluded today, aimed at achieving a roadmap to end the conflict through a Yemeni-led political process under UN auspices, as well as Saudi Arabia’s commitment to provide $1.2 billion in economic support for the Yemen Government.  The Secretary and the Foreign Ministers agreed that cooperation among the three governments and Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council is essential to advancing UN-led peace efforts.  Secretary Blinken reiterated that Yemen has an unprecedented opportunity for peace and called on the Yemeni parties to choose negotiations over continued conflict.  Secretary Blinken also congratulated the Foreign Ministers on finalizing the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and thanked them for their continued commitment to the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment.
