From October 23-25, the Department of State’s Special Representative for Global Partnerships Dorothy McAuliffe led a Partnership Opportunity Delegation (POD) to Brazil focused on building digitally inclusive communities. The delegation, comprised of 18 delegates representing key U.S. tech companies and non-profit organizations, including think tanks and higher education, explored partnership and engagement opportunities on digital inclusion with leaders of Brazil’s local and national government, civil society, and the private sector in Brasilia and Sao Paulo. The delegation’s mission underscores Secretary Blinken’s vision for global digital development that is inclusive and driven by innovation.
In Brasilia, Special Representative McAuliffe engaged with Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL), Ministry of Communications (MCOM), Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), and Ministry of Science and Technology (MCTI) to explore investment and partnership opportunities around Brazil’s efforts to expand connectivity and digital skills training and to develop regulation on emerging technologies. In Sao Paulo, Special Representative McAuliffe and POD delegates engaged state and city officials, AMCHAM’s Digital Working Group, tech accelerators, entrepreneurs, telecommunications representatives, and university leaders to discuss opportunities and hear about models for potential U.S. investment and partnership expansion in the Brazilian tech sector.
