The United States is currently the chair of the dialogue among the five Nuclear Weapons States, an ongoing exchange in the context of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
In this capacity, the United States organized a working-level experts meeting with counterparts from the People’s Republic of China, France, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on June 13-14 in Cairo. The experts from respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense discussed strategic risk reduction, as well as nuclear doctrines and policy.
The U.S. delegation included experts from the Departments of State and Defense and the National Nuclear Security Administration.
The U.S. delegation welcomed the professional approach of the delegations and the inclusion of defense officials in the thematic discussions.
As part of its chairmanship, the United States will continue efforts to facilitate discussion among nuclear experts from these five countries on these important topics.
