Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya will travel to New York City from March 29-30. During her visit, she will speak at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate hosted by UNSC President Mozambique on “Peace and Security in Africa: The Impact of Development Policies in the Implementation of the Silencing the Guns Initiative.” In addition to taking part in the second Summit for Democracy, Mozambique is a partner country for implementing the U.S. Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability, which focuses on ensuring that diverse, local perspectives are included in decision-making around peace and security. Under Secretary Zeya will also hold bilateral meetings.
