Slovenia became the 39th signatory to the Artemis Accords on April 19 in Ljubljana as part of the U.S.-Slovenia Strategic Dialogue. The Artemis Accords were established in 2020 by the United States and seven other countries to set out a practical set of principles to guide space exploration.
State Secretary Matevž Frangež of the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport signed the Accords for Slovenia in the presence of Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien. The United States and Slovenia share a close connection, rooted in shared democratic values, robust economic and trade ties, and a commitment to upholding the international rules-based order. Our participation together in the Artemis Accords strengthens these bonds.
Slovenia joins 38 other nations – Angola, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, the Republic of Korea, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay – in affirming the Accords’ principles for sustainable civil space activity. The Department of State and NASA lead the United States’ outreach and implementation of the Accords.
